Expectations & Goals for the Summer

Hi, my name is Patricia Acorda, a junior and rising senior at the Engineering and Science University Magnet School (ESUMS). This summer I will be doing the CRISP internship through Evolutions. This is my second internship so far, and my first engineering-based internship. Though I will also be participating in the Yale SCHOLAR Residential Program at the same time, I will make sure to not fall behind in my lab work and commit to spending my available time at the lab.

Through this internship, I hope to find out more about what I'm interested in, and hopefully narrow down my choices a bit before I start applying for colleges. I also want to do more independent work, and to practice speaking out and asking questions to people I am not familiar with. I will take advantage of every day spent in the lab to work on my "people skills" by asking questions when needed and never hesitating to talk to other lab members when appropriate. I will also put my best foot forward and put my best effort into this internship so I can get the most out of it and gain a genuine experience. I look forward to learning a lot about engineering and getting more hands-on experience in this lab as well as working hard this summer!

  1. Patricia,

I admire the fact that you will be balancing the internship and the SCHOLAR program over the summer, but how do you plan on doing it? Will you be able to divide your time equally between the two, or are you going to have to prioritize one over the other? Figuring out the schedule now would help in the future.
